Biophysical Methods in Medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\"><strong>Code<\/strong><\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\"><strong>Semester<\/strong><\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\"><strong>Completion<\/strong><\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\"><strong>Credits<\/strong><\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\"><strong>Range<\/strong><\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">Course Details<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">B83578<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">summer<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">credit<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">3<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">0+16<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/is.cuni.cz\/studium\/eng\/predmety\/index.php?do=predmet&amp;kod=B83578\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">View in SIS<\/a><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the course offers students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The course enables students to:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>see first-hand how cutting-edge clinical and research departments using biophysical methods operate,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>connect theoretical knowledge from the compulsory Biophysics course with concrete clinical applications,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gain an overview of the indications, patient preparation, technical parameters and safety aspects of individual methods,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>better understand what real clinical practice looks like in endoscopy, radiology, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy and experimental imaging,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gain motivation for future clinical specialisation or research activities (e.g. potential Ph.D. topics, involvement in projects).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The course includes excursions to the following departments:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Endoscopy \u2013 4th Department of Internal Medicine, General University Hospital (VFN)<\/strong><br>\u2013 colonoscopy, gastroscopy, construction of the endoscope, image transmission, patient preparation, options for biopsy and basic indications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shock wave therapy \u2013 4th Department of Internal Medicine, VFN<\/strong><br>\u2013 indications for treatment, technical parameters of the devices, practical organisation of the procedure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hyperbaric chamber \u2013 VFN<\/strong><br>\u2013 principle of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, indications, patient preparation, monitoring of parameters influencing chamber operation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PET\/CT \u2013 VFN<\/strong><br>\u2013 layout of the department, indications and diagnoses, patient preparation, technical description of PET\/CT, administration of radiopharmaceuticals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Radiopharmaceutical preparation and cyclotron \u2013 Na Homolce Hospital \/ Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences<\/strong><br>\u2013 explanation of radiopharmaceutical preparation, tour of the cyclotron, basic rules of radiation safety when working with radionuclides.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leksell Gamma Knife \u2013 Na Homolce Hospital<\/strong><br>\u2013 main diagnoses indicated for LGK, tour of the device, principle of stereotactic radiosurgery, patient preparation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Proton radiotherapy \u2013 Proton Therapy Center Bulovka<\/strong><br>\u2013 proton treatment of tumours (prostate, breast, head and neck, CNS, GI tract, lung, paediatric oncological diseases), principle of the centre\u2019s operation, planning and patient preparation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Magnetic resonance \u2013 IKEM (Bruker Biospec 7T)<\/strong><br>\u2013 focus on cellular and molecular imaging, visualisation of transplanted cells, integration of clinical and experimental work, demonstration of research practice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CyberKnife \u2013 Central Military Hospital in Prague<\/strong><br>\u2013 patient preparation, indications and possibilities of its use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1em\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The introductory meeting will take place on <strong>3 March at 12:00<\/strong> at the <strong>Institute of Biophysics and Informatics, U nemocnice 5<\/strong>.
